Museum of Russian Icons “F. Bigazzi”

The Museum of Russian Icons “F. Bigazzi” was inaugurated in 2000 following an agreement stipulated between the Municipality of Peccioli and the collector Francesco Bigazzi who for many years worked as a journalist and correspondent from Moscow and was in charge of the Culture and Press department of the General Consulate of Italy in Saint Petersburg. The Bigazzi Collection includes Russian icons dating back to the period between the 18thand the beginning of the 20thcentury. Another permanent collection open since 2007 is the one belonging to Belvedere S.p.A.. It comprises two main sections: the first includes dated and/or signed icons dating back to the period between the 18thand the 20thcenturies (70 pieces including a printed Gospel of 1903, an Anloghion and a Regal Door), that originate from Russia, Armenia, the Balcans, Constantinople, Estonia, Jerusalem, Greece, the Ione Isles, Latvia, Mount Athos, Rumania, Transilvania and Ukraina. The second includes crosses, icons and bronze Russian polyptichs from the 15thto the 20thcentury (a total of 75 pieces most of which typical of the production of the Old Believers and which include two painted icons in which a cross and a cross with a Deesis Tryptich, respectively are inscripted). The museums holds temporary exhibitions both of icons and of various objects connected to the Russian culture with pieces from other museums or from private collections.

Entrance ticket:

  • € 5,50 full ticket
  • € 3,50 reduced ticket (students, Carta Giovani holders, senior citizens over the age of 65, groups of at least 10 people)
  • € 4,00 reduced ticket for Carta ACI holders

The entrance is free for:

  • youths under the age of 16 if accompanied;
  • holders of Carta Touring (Touring Club Italiano), free admittance to any accompanying person.
